Staying With Us

Arrive as our guests, leave as our friends.

The Captain’s House opens its doors to guests from all corners of the world, welcoming you to a choice of nine splendid bedrooms – each commanding stunning and dramatic river and/or valley views, all with an oriental touch.

All our lavishly decorated standard and en suite rooms are centrally heated, with tea and coffee making facilities. Children are very welcome with well behaved adults!

We have a beautiful tea garden, a real sun trap in which to sit and enjoy a famous Devonshire Cream Tea whilst relaxing with sounds of the river’s babbling in the background and marvelling at the magnificent scenery and pretty flowers. Treat yourself to our mouthwatering freshly baked scones with jam and lashings of farmhouse clotted cream – mmm, wickedly delicious!

After a Captain’s House full English breakfast we can supply packed lunches to take with you whilst you go exploring the quiet lanes with a rich tapestry of country life unfolding before you.

Limited car parking is available adjacent, free for visitors staying at the Captain’s House; there is also public parking along with a bus stop, just a short stroll over the river.

The Captain’s House is a mere two minute level walk to the select shops of our olde-worlde smugglers village with enchanting harbour. A wide range of inns and restaurants cater for all tastes and pockets.

Luggage Transfer

Due to our close proximity to the coastal paths and moorland walks we offer a very competetive luggage transfer service and can pick up and drop off yourselves and/or your kit.  For a small fee we cover a 25mile radius (by prior arrangement).

Visitor Comments

We found that The Captain’s House in Lynmouth was a perfect spot to not only explore the wilderness of Exmoor National Park, the rugged coastline, the quaint old fashioned towns and villages, to the photos we took of the wildlife and flora, incredible. And we agreed to stay on and was most accessible to visit the best of Cornwall, South Devon, Somerset and Dorset. A truly memorable holiday of a lifetime. Hope we come back soon. – Prof Ingrid Westin, Sandviken, Sweden
